Hermosa Beach

Hermosa_strand_sunset_2Hermosa means beautiful and that it is—flat, sandy, miles long—ideal for sunbathing, volleyball and surfing. It’s only 15 blocks from east to west and 40 blocks from north to south with the Pacific Coast Highway running down the middle.

West of PCH single homes mix with apartments, some have sunset views. Many tend to be vacation rentals. East of PCH, the hills rise into middle class and upper middle class neighborhoods of tract homes with custom touches. Multiple housing units dominate slightly over single family homes.

Hermosa Beach has its own elementary school but middle and high school students are served by either Manhattan Beach or Redondo Beach where rankings are in the 80 to 90th percentiles. Crime is Hermosa_beach_pier_sunset_2suburban average. There’s a pier, half dozen parks, library, delicious mix of restaurants, world famous comedy club, concerts and professional volleyball tournaments on the beach.

Downtown Los Angeles is about 21 miles but many locals work near the LAX corridor which is only a 15-minute drive.
